Converting coal cellar to dry storage area - Linking drainage to a manhole

Foul and surface water, private drains and public sewers, land drains and soakaways, filter drains and any other ways of getting rid of water.

hello - I'm going to dig out the brick floor of our old coal cellar to create a dry storage area. I plan to lay 20mm gravel across the whole floor above the existing clay soil bed, then DPM and concrete slab. There is a manhole about 2ft away from the coal cellar. Rather than installing a pipe to feed any collected water into the manhole, could I just drill a series of 12mm holes into the side of the manhole (the amount of water coming in is not great, it's simply from penetrating damp because the cellar is yet to be tanked).

I'm grateful for any advice forthcoming...

Thanks

Simon

no you cant drill 12 mm holes into the manhole
you need a proper design and installation really
I have an old bomb shelter at home under 2 feet of concrete and ventilation is a nightmare
luckily its not damp but its harder and more expensive than you think to tank properly
cheers LLL

thanks for depressing me lagerlout!

when you say I can't drill little holes - do you mean it won't work at all or just that a proper design/install (which I can't afford) is the correct way to do it?

???

drilling 12 mm holes is a pure bodge
i cannot see the job i n question but you need a pipe at least 75-110mm going into a chamber depending on lots of variables
it needs to be accessible and roddable
a picture would be handy
