I would just like definitive clarifcation on the following:

I am laying Brent Omrga block Paving.

After I have brished the jointing sand between the blocks, should all the sand be swept clear before compacting with the plate vibrator, or should I leave a scattering "custion" of sand over the top of them

You help would be much appreciated...

Best advice is to remove all surplus sand before compacting, but, if you were to leave it on, it wouldn't be the end of the world.

The reason why I prefer to sweep off before initial consolidation is that the plate can often crush sand into the surface of the blocks, causing a permanent 'stain'. It doesn't always happen: it depends on the type of sand, the type of block, and the force of the plate (and whether you use a neoprene sole), but if you're looking for perfection, that's the way to go.

Once the paving has been consolidated, sweep on additional sand and top-up the joints.
