Paving a courtyard where car will be parked - Need advice for paving a courtyard/drive

Hi there,

I'm looking to have the courtyard at the back of my house repaved and I'd really like to use a large format paver. I'm particularly fond of the Bradstone (sold as Boral Bradstone here in Australia) Old Town pavers (Random or standard).

The courtyard will mainly incur foot traffic however I would also like to park the car there sometimes. Most manufacturers suggest that large format pavers must be laid over a concrete slab to prevent cracking however I would like to avoid doing this.

Can you please tell me if I would be able to get away with parking a car on the Bradstone pavers and if so what kind of base I would need to use? I've spoken to many people about this and opinion seems to be very much divided with many paviors saying it's fine but Manufacturers saying the pavers will crack.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Assuming these are the same as the Bradstone products we have in Britain and Ireland, then they MUST be laid on a full concrete bed if you plan to run vehicles over them, however occasionally it might be.
