Geofix / rompox easy - Advice re pointing material please

Hello,

We bought some Geofix (it's the all weather version in the red tub) from the same guy who supplied our flags. Now, having read some of the comments here I'm loathe to use it. I'm just a a DIYer doing his first domestic patio so the ease of use appeals.

The flags are 60cm x 60cm of what looks like shot-blasted concrete in white, grey, and black. The joints are approx 1 cm wide and 4cm deep.

I might now return the Geofix and buy some Rompox Easy instead, based on the advice on this site.

Most on here seem happy with Rompox, including guru Tony. The only dissenting voice I could see was Bob_A in this thread.

So, is it worth returning the Geofix and buying Rompox Easy instead?

Yes definatley.

I use GFTK (albeit a two part epxoy version) regularly which is a similar product to Romex.

I think LLL has had some experience of the Rompox easy......

if you want it to last i would steer clear of rompox and geofix
I dont consider 2-3 years to be an adequate lifespan for a jointing material
good old sand and cement or 2 part resin is the way forward

Has anyone used these products for jointing coping stones where there is a few cms of air at the edge of the joints - could maybe clamp a length of wood underneath or use gaffa tape until its gone off perhaps?

The geofix is going back as I was within the return period. Another local vendor assured me "100%" that any problems with geofix were due to installers not having compacted it enough. But I've read too many horror stories and I figure you guys know what you're doing! So it's going back.

I'm either going to use GTFX 840 plus or a coloured mortar made with silver sand and white cement as advised on here.

The base of this patio is dry mix over plate compacted hardcore. But in some places closer to the house there are areas that will be a very thin layer of dry mix over a hardened concrete base from years ago. Ideally we'd have dug this out but...

My understanding is that the permeable proprietary jointing materials are unsuitable over concrete (including 840 plus I guess), so I'll probably end up going with old fashioned mortar.

My concern is lack of skill (never done any diy before until this) and staining the very light coloured stones. But I'll have plenty of chance to read up before I crack on.

just take your time and do not mix on the paving.

you cant go wrong with 840+, the wetter the better... wet the slabs wet the 840 into a slurry and squegee it in ,brush excess away, fine hose sprinlker nozel and wash clean easy....MSH

is that a polymeric mark? I.E. 1 part?
