Block paving screeding layer

I have read the article on pre-compacted screeding for block paving.

I am still unclear just how much more the screeding layer will compact to the final level.

What I really need to know is, if I am using 50mm blocks at what level should I make the pre-compacted layer be prior to laying the blocks to bring them to the correct level...
