Cherry picker

Was stuck in a long queue today all because lane one was shut just before M4 (my turn off). Then when i got to the problem, i saw the remains of a cherry picker basket on the hard shoulder, with two traffic officer standing guard and a screen round it.
now i know why. Poor bloke, i thought those things were safe.
To cap it all, i delivered the crusher only for them to say they didn't want it, then the m4 was shut. so a 70 mile round trip took 6 hours, and netted me £80 in transport fees.
What a day

My god, that must have been awful. At least he won't have known much if anything about it. I feel sorry for the motorists who happened across it soon after it happened. That sort of thing would stick with you for life. Terrible.

I've been on a few of those cherry pickers at heights up to 15m but 45m??? That seems like insanity.

The machine was on level ground. I had a good look when i drove past. I suspect a gust of wind. I cannot see any other cause, as it was a wheeled machine, there was no outrigger failure

I went past saturday on the way to LSP yard

they used to have all the cherry pickers up high, they are all down low now

I was under the impression the big ones all have stabilising jacks when extended?

On the larger Genie machines the wheels move outwards to create a larger base, the baskets will always bounce due to the flex in the machines boom.
