decking will be very slippery when it gets wet from the splashes from the pool and 1000 times worse 2 years down the line when it gets slime on the surface from the good old British weather

I would lay either block paving or as Luton advises lay paving slabs, for the shape use cardboard and make a template

Thanks. That wouldn't be a problem normally but we'd want something that looks nice and matches the block paving. With paving slabs don't these need to be fitted the same as block paving or can we just use mortar on the clayey ground?

and how easy can paving slabs be cut?

DONT do it, yes you may get 15% off in the sale but the maintenance it will need over the years will easy out do anything wood, unless you go for very expensive wood treated then putting it around a pool is just asking for trouble.... and that's the users of the pool not just the wood...

cutting slabs is easy with a nice still cut off saw, you can hire or buy a second hand one then sell after use...

slabs or paving is the way to go it will take you longer possible but it will only need to be done once

daz don't take offence but if you can't get your head round the simple concept of laying a flag or block paving from the link above then I think you need to get someone in to do the work for you as cutting is cutting no mater what the material it just requires a different type of saw or blade
