Planning to sort the garden out once and for all but i have hit a wall on where to source bedding stone from for the land drainage, I know B&Q and wickes sell it both for £35-£40 per tonne but have heard of people paying less and any saving I can make will go a long way.

I am located in Manchester M29 area.

I know that I have only joined but I have long been a reader and only after 2 years of reading lol have decided 2013 is the year!

Thanks
Sam

£35-40 for an 800kg bulk bag is about standard, you'll only get cheaper loose or on bulk orders

Many Thanks for all of the suggestion i will work down mickg list tomorrow and see where I end up as there is more that I am after so maybe able to work some sort of deal out.

Don't mind it being loose and dumped on drive as that will be the next job. :D

Just so I know and don't sound stupid when asking what exactly is it I would be asking for is it 10mm gravel, limestone? As the people I have rung up on Tuesday all seem to call it different things.

BTW I am looking for roughly 4-5 ton.

Thanks

you can only try and get a little bit of discount but its up to the merchants really

any clean 20mm stone would work, look on the main site for the specification on how to install a land drain

Right after ringing every company within the northwest lol I have managed to source it at £20 a ton loose or £25 ton bagged, forgot what the company's called but have their phone number so when I ring up to order I will post the name, rang that many and forgot lol

All of the suggested ones above quoted between £34 - £54 a ton mainly between £34-£40.

Be interesting to see what you get, are those prices plus vat on the cheaper ones?

Loose price is usually quoted as collected not delivered?

He said I would have to order a min of 5 ton to have it delivered loose think gonna get it in bags. He also a said I could go and have a look at the stone toake sure it's what I want. I am not due to order anything just yet as I wanted to get a price list together before doing anything. Will google the phone number when I get back home and see if I can find out the name or just give them a quick bell. When he said the price I nearly fainted lol but someone else also quoted simular at £24 ton loose but as they where about 15 miles away they wanted £30 delivery.

You don't want limestone as its not suitable and bad practice to use as a filter medium when installing land drainage. Have you tried Offerton sand and gravel ?

the days of having a choice of 20mm stone are well gone, most merchant in my area only stock limestone in small or bulk bags these days and no longer stock 20mm sandstone ballast as we know it as

P gravel or pipe bedding as its commonly know as is a lot more expensive
