Hi Im a new user and Im looking for a bit of advice off you kind folks :) Im costing up a granite sett driveway which (12.5 m2) using beige granite setts ( 110mmx110mmx50mm). I believe the best way to lay them would be on a concrete screed? I have a few questions Im scratching me head to:

1. How long will it take me?
2. Is pointing it with a slurry mix the best way to go or use easyjoint?
3. Will i need to use edge restraints if the setts will but up to paving?

Be great if I could get some feedback as Im feeling a bit nervous about it as Ive never taken anything on like this using setts.

cheers D

Hi the best way to lay them is on sand and cement through a mixer 4/1. Lay each row to a line .as yours are 110mm ,you move the line back to 120mm or 125 mm depending on how good the setts are .usually we lay channel / band first and then string each row across of that . It's a days work laying them for a mason laying them on a regular basis . Use a little length of wood to tap out any tiny trips you still have .throw water on them at the end of the day . If they are flat you could use a belt cleaner or grout them ,you will need sponges and cloths and a squeegee. You could even point them if you wanted a nice finish I know it sounds too long ,when we did the Main Street of china town in soho it was all handpointed( they hadn't heard of belt cleaners then ).

danicko i think the consensus is that laying setts is not an easy job
I went to see a mate the other day and he has started laying reclaimed black setts on his bellmouth
sideways

I explained that they were the wrong way round but he has done a fair few

look at some of cookies videos but that man has been doing them for 30 years
LLL :)
