Looking to lay a 80m2 block pave drive. Just wanted to know if any one had used scalping(old road surface) as the sub-base.

Going to make the sub base 150mm as I do not want any channelisation or depressions at a later date. I have been told scalping only cost £8-10 per tonne as opposed to £30 for ballast.

Any ideas of scalping suppliers in the midalnds?

No no no no no no nop no no no!!!!!

How can you say that you want to avoid any channelisation and then say you plan to use bloody road planings? There's hardly anything worse! They are only fit for farm tracks and are NEVER suitable for sub-base formation, not even for private driveways.

And not ballast either! Read the effing website - use genuine Type 1 granular material to minise any chance of channelisation and settlement. Anything else is a totally false economy.
