A waste of a day ill on the sofa thanks to my oh-so-generous kids

Anyway it's Mega Machines day on Sky 523, well worth a watch, it's made my day bearable!

Watching the Americans work is an eye opener!!

Take resurfacing a road in Vegas - they whistle it off with the biggers cold planer Wirtgen produce, then relay it using a shuttle-buggy hopper feed system, with the supplied hot material just tipped out on the roadway ahead of the paver, where it is picked up by the augers of the shuttle and fed to the 20t hopper of the paver! Don't you just love the great US weather?? Wouldn't dare do that over here!

Plus the total lack of PPE/Hi Viz and associated red tape is startling!

Not the best pic but I think you can just see the material laid out in front of the elevator mouth.

I had this same discussion with 100% real Armericans over the weekend. Most of the construction industry in the west is based on disposable Mexican labour, which would explain the lack of PPE. Apparently, a hi-viz jacket is more valuable than an immigrant labourer, and harder to get hold of!

I think i mentioned it before but i saw a gang of brickies in florida building a wall that must have been 3-4 miles long around a new gated community
I stopped to chew the fat with them and none could speak english
someone shouted "yo" and there was the big fat redneck sitting in his 7 litre pick up, air con on, reading some gun mag, while the "wetbacks " worked in 90 deg heat for $30 a day
the whole of america is built on immigration, yet it is the hardest country to work in legally?
