Hi tony thanks for the heads up, i didnt know that as the case i was under the impression that british standards were voluntary unless i had put it in a contract? In the eyes of a court, it doesn't matter how many years you've been doing it that way, the fact that the work does not comply with 7533:3 means you've cheated the client and any other argument you might want to make regarding workmanship is undermined.
I've seen it happen on several occasions. Contractors have lost cases because they were shown not to be aware of, or blissfully disregarded, the British Standards.
