If A + B = 76
A - B = 38
A divided by B = ?

A/ B = 3

A + B = 76 (1)
A - B = 38
A = 38 + B (2)

sub (2) in to (1)

(38+B) + b = 76
2B + 38 = 76
2B = 38
B = 19

A + (19) = 76
A = 57

A divided by B
57 / 19 = 3

What's my prize?

Add A + B = 76 and A - B = 38
A+A+B-B=76+38 equals
2A = 114
Therefore A=57 which means B must be 19
So A divided by B as Carberry correctly says is 3

There is a reason why its been 30 years, that's because algebra has no use to anyone other than on university challenge.

Algebra may seem irrelevant, Dan, but I've whiled away at least an hour this evening preparing a drawing to explain "Streetmasonry Geometry". Isn't it amazing what we'll find to do when we have no real work and Cabin Fever has well and truly set-in!

I got fed-up with having to explain the concept of 'tangent points' to DIYers, and even some so-called contractors, so I decided to do it all pictorially.

It might be a day or two before I upload it though....

Algebra was just there to show the working. I looked at the question and knew the answer right away
