Mosaic for a driveway?

Setts and cobbles, tarmac, asphalt, resin systems, concrete whether it's plain, patterned or stencilled, gravels, etc.

I've just seen a question come up on one of the mosaic forums, someone has been commissioned to do a mosaic for a driveway where the client will park their boat (on a trailer).
They say they will use marble, porcelain, or high-fire ceramics. I can only assume the tiles will be about 4-6mm thick and about 10mm - 20mm across.

Anyone had this before? Will they be too thin? They don't mention the size of the boat but I would have though 10mm stone would have been the minimum?

We did one 20 years or so ago, as a feature beneath a lych gate at the entrance to a rather grand private driveway, but we used selected pebbles of various colours to create the desired image. The idea was similar to this which I did NOT do but am completely envious of....

...not sure how it would work with relatively thin tiles and ceramics. I'm guessing there would be problems with scratching and cracking.

Wow, that's impressive. I would like to have a go at that sometime. Not today though, it was the works party last night and I got the shakes big time :p

that looks good gaffer
if I dreamt i did that I would wake up and apologise :;):
think the porcelain would be ok as its very hard but i guess you would need a spot on concrete base to lay them on

Thanks for that, never realised the porcelain would be tough enough. Ta.

That mosaic is just a small part of a much larger work at a place up near Lancaster called Gresgarth House. Somewhere, I have the name of the mosaicist, who specialises in this highly-stylised design. The place is only open a couple or three days a year but if you're ever up that way, it's well worth checking.

I haven't been there for 5 yrs or so, but I'm sure there's a big mosaic based on the four winds.
