How does one calculate the required qauntity of cement and sand to succesfully mortar the joints of a york stone crazy paving area that is, say, 40 sq m?
Ive a patio to do and don't want to make to many trips to my suppliers and don't want exces sbags of cement living in my garage either!
Is their a formular?
Thanks

Firstly: this is the Block Paving forum. Your message would be better received in the Flags & Slabs forum.
Secondly, there is no way to calculate what quantity of mortar is required to joint crazy paving because it is, as the names suggests, crazy. Smaller pieces means more joints per square metre, therefore more mortar, whereas larger pieces means fewer joints. Further, the width of the joints can vary - they might be 10mm, they might be 80mm.
I'd suggest buying 4 bags of cement for starters. That should be enough for a typical job, but you mighht find that you've half-a-bag left over, or that you need another couple of bags. Given that cement is only around 3-4 quid a bag, it's hardly worth fretting about!
