I want to ask for advice to help me decide how to improve, at the lowest cost, the front of a house I am refurbishing. The photo shows an ugly tarmac front. The immediate neighbours a have lawn and the neighbours on the other side have installed block paving to park the car. Across the road (see other photo) They have installed a car parking space with gravel. Other have just put concrete to park the car but this does not improve the kerb appeal of the house. So anything goes on this road. There is really no problem finding places to park on the same street but people like to park the car off the road. I could do one of those things: better appearance with lawn or practical parking space with hard surface or gravel. How will the existing ramp affect it? I do not want to re-do the ramp too.
I am refurbishing my house to sell it so the use will not be mine any longer.
I would rip that all out, topsoil it and turf it, with a picket fence along the front boundary. If it's not going to be your house, then no need to worry about parking. It will smarten up the front no end.

Interesting about the picket fence, thanks. Would I be able to get rid of the ugly block border altogether? or would I still need a border and the fence?
I would get rid of it and slope the lawn down. You may have to contain next doors lawn with a retainer. You could keep the existing levels, but would need to rebuild the front and side walls.

Anyway, the ugly tarmac surface is fairly thick and it may have a sub-base, so by the time I remove it I will problably be close to the pavement level.
