Hi,

I am doing a new drive (70m2), i have done all the digging out (11") and ready to put in my stone and compact it. However i am not sure about the edges.

Is it best to buy concrete edgings like
http://www.stowellconcrete.co.uk/patio_paving_and_wet_cast_edgings.php

or just lay the edge course on concrete.

I have seen in another post and discussion about laying the edge course on compacted hardcore, or on the earth below, so not sure what is best practice.

It seem like i would need a lot of concrete to get kerbs or edges haunched up from the sub base. But for the sake of a few pennies i dont want to skimp..

i also am able to borrow a plate for compacting the hardcore

http://www.machinemart.co.uk/shop....mpactor

I am not sure if its big enough? its quite a pricey plate for something that aint really man enough.

Thanks for your opinions.
Cheers

Edge courses

That plate will be fine, just go over the ground 8 times (side to side, up down, diagonal both directions), compact in 100mm layers.

The water tank is used when compacting blacktop: allowing water to drip onto the plate prevents the bitmac stocking to it.
