The old joke about the wife wanting an animal skin coat so I got her a donkey jacket springs to mind!
Donkey jackets disappeared at the same time as we all had to start wearing hi-viz. In northern England, most donkey jackets had an orange back-shoulder panel with the letters NCB emblazoned boldly across. There seemed to be a lucrative market for the miners to pass on their state-issued garments in exchange for beer vouchers and many of these ended up on the building sites of Lancashire and Yorkshire.
