Gravel for driveway - What is best for a drive in yorkshire?

Hi - sorry not sure if this is the right place to ask about gravel but here goes.

We're laying part of our driveway with gravel retained by StableDrive grid and are looking for a suitable gravel around 10mm-14mm. We have considered Cotswold chippings but are concerned they would break down and discolour too easily (we get a lot of greening living in yorkshire). Also we have had gravel in the past and the cats have used it as a giant litter tray, so are thinking of a more angular stone rather than a pea gravel type.

Any ideas for an appropriate stone? Would a quartz chipping maybe discolour less than an "absorbent" stone?

If you're using a grid system, that tends to keep the cats at bay as they can't dig/scatter, so you *could* use a pea gravel, which is the cheapest and most readily available for of gravel in most parts of Yorkcestershire.

Cotswold is too soft; the local crushed gritstone can get algaefied quite quickly; the magnesian limestone is fine but bloody boring to look at; the river-sourced pea gravel is damned hard, being high in quartzitic material, and tends to stay clean-ish. It's also quite colourful.

Thanks all. Ganger - that's who we're getting the StableDrive from! lol. We liked the sutherland quartz, but I guess it's not locally sourced so transport will cost a bit. And thanks Tony for a super site....
