Hi all. You'll love this.
Client of our has just had a load of grey indian stone laid. He asked me to do a spec so I suggested 5:1, pre wet slabs & add sbr to mortar etc. None of this was done. The contractor also created massive voids under the paving due to no full mortar bed. Apart from ripping the whole lot out is there anything I can add to a mortar to enable it to flow flow into the voids more freely? I'd rather fill the voids from above if possible. Not good practice but there you go.

I guess slurry point it all might be a work around but what else ismt right if he is spot laying it all?

Rip it up, client needs to take more care in future

Even with a low viuscosity slurry, you can never be sure that you're getting into all the voids.

On a few spot-bed jobs I've assessed, the mortar has been laid as a ring to the edges of the flag, thereby creating a hollow in the centre which is effectively sealed-off from the outside, so even a slurry wouldn't get in there.

As has already been said: rip it up and start again. (© Edwyn Collins)

Fair point lpad & T.
I agreed to point the whole lot with instamac gim before it was laid. No way I'd guarantee the work now. Feck it. I'll break it to him gently.

Thanks for comments.

Born in 71 LLL. Take your pick. The old man was well into hifi & music so I listened to loads of stuff on the first sony walkman. He also went through a laserdisc phase. Those 12" dvd's were great but the hernia you got from moving the player around was not welcome. Anyone remember the 9 lives of fritz the cat? That sticks in my mind.
