there have been a few cases lately
one nasty little oik
another noddy
as much as I despise these people, their ill informed comments, and feeble attempts at humour ,
i reckon that locking people up for words is a step closer to some of the totalitarian regimes that our government seek to depose.
it starts like this then eventually no one is allowed to criticise anyone in a position of authority
just like Russia in fact
can the written word be a crime?
my old mate Dennis Stenning died last week, he had a broad cockney accent and everyone was a C%$t or a w*&^%$r
but he always said it with a smile and it only bothered a few
they dont make them like that anymore

have to agree, we as a nation have the right to free speech unless you are white and born here and if you overstep the mark you are arrested but if you a Muslim cleric with hooks, all's good until the USA start asking questions.
Where does it become a crime to voice a different sett of views to the majority, worked for no hands. granted what the lad had on the shirt was wrong but...... one law for all.
the only reason i stated white was that most of those convicted are white.

I've no problem with his sentence he'll only serve half of it anyway and he certainly won't be so stupid again. Freedom of speech is not the same as being free to say what you like if your comments are non threatening appropriate and within the right context then that is freedom of speech otherwise it's possibly an illegal act and that's how it should be. Hook did time for his stuff then spent the rest of his time fighting deportation it's not as black and white as you think.
Can't see it from my house

The lad with the t shirt looks old enough to know better
I've got a little bit of sympathy for he lad on line, he got a Bit carried way with his own stupidity, he'll think twice before he does it again.
I think the majority of people will be glad to see them jailed. I get the impression that jo public are fed up of these types of louts
I completelty agree with Pablo, free speech should be a positive thing, not a free ticket to behave obnoxiously

we werent talking a little anti war abuse
they were called baby killers and rapists

In the US people stand outside the funerals of dead soldiers with banners saying "god hates fags" etc.
They do not get locked up. Their right to free speech is acknowledged, no matter how much people are "offended" by their message. Society at large is deemed as being capable of dealing with these people.
For some reason in the UK, the government, judiciary and police seem to think that people need protecting from people who express views that are not deemed "nice".
Very sinister indeed. We are sleepwalking towards an Orwellian dystopia.

State repression ? Really?lutonlagerlout wrote:I dunno steve

If people want to behave like obnoxious twats, thats up to them but when they start dragging innocent people into it i think its right that the state steps in and protects the innocents
The despair and anguish caused to the poor families who are already going through living hell (which we cant even begin to fathom) by these morons, is unnaceptable to me.

I think it should come down to whether it's a personal opinion or an incitement.
If some eejit says "I hate suchabody because s/he's black/white/brown/green/gay/fat/disabled/ugly/stupid/French..." then that's an opinion, and as someone once said, opinions are like arseholes: we might not like them but we all have them.
However, if someone says "YOU should hate suchabody because s/he's black/white/brown/green/gay/fat/disabled/ugly/stupid/French..." then that's incitement and should not be tolerated.
Locking up these eejits at, what is it now, 300 quid per day? I'm not sure that benefits anyone. If said eejit incites hatred against, say, the disabled, then 240 hrs of community service helping the disabled might be more appropriate.
