Advice needed - Block paving sealant dont look right

Hi All,

Thanks in advance in reading my post.

I just had my very large block paving driveway and patio been power washed, re sanded and then sealed. I was told it was resi block and the best in the market. Came in 25l cans and smelt awful. The can was unbranded which just read black paving sealant so don't even know if it really was resi block.

Now the guys put 2 coats of the stuff, first coat quite close and then the second pretty much sprinkled it on. He said the first coat is most important before the job he said it will need 2 good coats.

He's been paid. 2 weeks later the result is that it not only looks patchy as in there are parts it seems that there is colour variation I.e. wet look. I don't know if that is the finishing result look like? And also weeds are growing back. I seen some heads popping out which was the main reason I put the sealant on to avoid the buggers. I was told by the guy that once the sealant goes down it will be weed free. Is this really the case??

Or have just been ripped off £500!!!

I hope not, any advice will really appreciated.

Weeds after two weeks on resanded paving? I doubt it. But will give you the benifit of the doubt

£500 to clean, resand, let dry then seal with resi block? Seems cheap to me

Lastly resi block is crap. Ive had it fail and had full refund from resi block

my sister in law got her 90 m2 block paved drive jetwashed, resanded and sealed for 250 quid . ???

....When you say: just had it sealed. Was the paving dry enough, only we have had a lot of rain recently?

First response. Weeds are coming out but not loads. It may be a case where the power washer did not get to from what ive read. Also he re.sealed after an hour of the first coat which i have been told the reason of it being patchy as the first coat was not given off any time to settle.

Second the response with the you tube link....my drive is about 300m2 massive. I own 3 houses in a row. Your you tube link is funny but no relevance

Third response...we did have light rain the night after sealing and then clear weather. Do you think that light rain could have caused it??? Also soon as put it down and an hour later he sprinkled some water on it and the water just sat on top showing me the coat/layer had been applied.

Putting water on resiblock less than 24 hours after application will cause it to discolour and turn white even a drip will have the effect, with no way of reversing this effect,unless it is middle summer the chances off presure washing and sealing the same day are slim to zero ,there is no reason to wet it to show it was applied as you will clearly see this
Resiblock comes in a blue 25 litre can with a white label with resiblock in brown txt
I would suggest your contractor has little experence in the sealing buisness MSH

500 quid *cannot* buy a sufficient quantity of Resiblock sealant to cover 300m² with one coat, let alone two!

Next, Resiblock is *always* supplied in branded drums, with the company name being highly prominent. There's no mistaking it.

Finally, washing and sealing on the same day does not give the pavement adequate time to dry out sufficiently to ensure good bonding and proper curing of the sealant.

In short, you've been 'done'.


I had my own block paved driveway cleaned and sealed using Resiblock Ultra Matt 15 months ago. There is not a weed to be found on it, and it's had no further maintenance since the day the sealant was applied. I do know of other jobs where Resiblock has been less than successful, but the vast majority of those could be attributed to application error. I know of only two sets of incidents in the past 15 years where the product itself was at fault.

To clear any doubt resiblock agreed to a refund, we had jet washed in the spring and had to wait two months for a 2 week dry spell before we could apply the resiblock. Was hassle and client was trying to rush us but we stood by our guns and waited for dry weather, it still failed, resiblock rep even checked weather stations in local area to see if weather claims we made were true.

In a word you've been ripped off, not so much the money side of things, but the process, wash one day, allow paving to be completely dry with no forecast of rain, (this could take a couple of days even in the summer) then you sand & seal in the same day. If it was Resiblock then the 2 coat system that should have been used is Resiblock Superior.
Where I said the money side of things, if it was us doing this work and you have 300 sq mts, you would have being looking at £3K at least for genuine Resiblock products and the correct process of doing these jobs.
