Hi, first post so please go easy on me!
I am hoping to start work on my driveway asap and (like many others by the sounds of things!) have set my heart on black limestone flags (yawn!!).
The drive is small, approx 5m long by 4m wide and therefore will only ever take 1 car. Im hoping to use 150mm compacted type 1 followed by 40mm of dryish sharp sand/cement bed. So far the places ive briefly looked at (rock unique & london stone) both have the reasonably priced black limestone in the 25-40mm thicknesses and these were what i was hoping to use.
Can anyone advise if this method is suitable, or am I looking at the more costly full concrete bed.
Thanks in advance, excellent website by the way!

Commercial blocks have been on Ebay recently and at times come in smaller loads to suit your driveway. They are 300x200x80 so will givev a chunky finish. the block is finished with a layer of solid granite. Should give you the look your after. 20-40mm flags on a driveway is a risky business.

Fair comments made there and obviously with a driveway small units are more suitabel but If done properly there is no reason why natural stone paving cannot not be laid on a driveway. The most important thing is the base underneath. Spent a lot of time in Australia when I was younger and seen lots of drives laid with thin ceramic tiles with no issues. My biggest concern would be maintenance from oil and tyre marks.
Also whats this about our stone being 25-40mm thick? 25mm all the way :;):

At these prices if I had somewhere to store them until I was ready, I would be getting these for my driveway and disposing of what I did not need.
Am I right to assume that they are laid as flexible blocks joined with sand? How do they compare with the tobermore sienna paving? (I was not impressed with sienna compared with real Granite)
