Suggers, mate, I'm not in the flog em and hang em brigade, and I'm not looking to argue with you. I do not think that capital punishment should be used unless it's a 100%, ie. the likes of Brady etc I know that there are loads of cases where people are wrongfully convicted, but why is imprisonment for life more humane than execution, unless your running a third world style prison system, or some kind of isolation system, how are they punished. Ok they've had their liberty took away, but they're still alive, doing a lot of the things we do, they just adapt to a different style of life. We all know the Prison system fails, so what is the answer?

I'm with you on that Stewart. For me, capital punishment does not stack up on a moral level. It hasn't worked in America. Killing human beings is wrong, whoever is doing the killingCarberry wrote:You miss my long post on the first page about the innocent project and why capital punishment isn't the answer?

I would agree that imprisonment was a justifiable form of Punishment, if, in serious cases, it was say 24hrs lock down in solitary, with no perks, i.e TV, visits, books etc so therefore making their lives a living hell so to speak, but that isn't the case as we all know. On the other hand, I feel Prison is a crap form of punishment, especially for minor crimes. I'm a firm believer in education, community punishment and rehabilitation. For a large percentage of criminals, Prison holds no fear and is looked upon as easy time. Maybe if we reduced custodial sentences, but actually made Prison harder, more of a denial of your everyday freedoms, then it may become a detterent. More emphasis should be placed upon reducing the appeal of crime in the first place, and, how this happens I do not know, a reversal in the attitude that Gangsta/criminal/thug lifestyles are cool, and that being respectful, decent and responsible is more appealing.
Maybe less involvement of the Government with the big stick approach, and more community based "control" where local communities police and govern themselves, training and helping the communities "weak" and disconnected rather than relying on the law and Government.
Most of us on here are self employed, we stand up for ourselves, regrdless of Government, so maybe if communities looked more to aid themselves, things may change, I don't know.
As for the moral issue of life, I'm not a Christian, so I view things differently, but in my opinion, as soon as you commit these types of crimes against other Humans, your rights to forgiveness and respect as a fellow Human go by the way side, and you should be dealt with as we would a dangerous animal. Just my thoughts. If you witnessed say a murder of a loved one, and were present with the chance to either apprehend the assailant or had the means to kill them, which would you choose?

I think it was Spike Milligan who said - "eating people is wrong"
No easy answer Suggs and you know it.
`String em up`is a base emotion, i am no Head Doctor (as you may or may not have noticed) but i suspect this is probably up there with our fight or flight response and you wont change that over night.
Put me in a room with anyone who hurts one of mine and i would of course like to think that i would despatch my kind justice as necessary, in reality i suspect most of us would stop before it came to a point where our kids would see us banged up for a stretch but ! we are only human.
Threatening to cut the nuts of a peado or string up a child killer is and never has been a deterrent, so what do we do ?.
There has probably been a good arguement for looking inside their heads and trying to figure out why they do what they do, but what have we gained to date ? and is it usefull before the act as you cant screen all society for those who are wired up that way.
So then it comes down to keeping those who are just bad and beyond any doubt guilty alive and the cost that incurrs, the cost that could be spent on protecting others, how many times have social services failed looking after known risk cases due to the lack of availbale man power.
No brainer Suggs from here, just a working family guys opinion, untouched by religion or tragedy to date and long may it continue.

why don't you pi$$ off and start your own thread if you want to post anything derogatory, my original post was out of respect for Winnie Johnson who has suffered for 48 years not knowing where her son was and spent the majority of her life courageously fighting to get justice for Keith
I hope that Winnie Johnson a devoted mother can now rest in peace reunited with her little one at last
if you have nothing nice to say about Winnie then "DON'T POST IT ON MY THREAD"

Listen as far as i'm concerned brady and the likes are beasts and deserve to be treated as such. Hanging is to good for them, they should wake up every morning expecting the worst. RIP Winnie. You don't have to agree with me but there are plenty who do. Nonces should be inflicted daily with extreme violence. They didn't care when they were not just murdering their victims but recording it for their pleasure. You are entitled to your opinion and me my opinion.

Deep down inside you would all love to be in a position to kick the shite out of the beasts. What goes on inside to them, i regard as a privelage. You honestly don't understand what some of them actually did, if you did you would have nightmares, i will spare you that. I Felt for Winnie as i do for all the mothers and fathers who child has been abducted, i did something about it when i could. What did you lot do ??? Probably read the papers and forgot about it after a while. Shame on you.
