The pointing on my recently repointed Indian stone patio (Thanks to the people who replied to my post on the subject on the 18th of June) is a nice, regular, beigy-grey type colour when dry but turns a patchy brown when it rains. It remains that colour for several hours, probably more than a full day after the rain has stopped and the pavers have dried. Is this normal and have I just never noticed this effect before? Or is it a sign of a problem with the pointing. The contractor used a 4:1 sand cement mix with a plasticiser all of which he appeared to carefully measure, also he made the mortar in small batchs to prevent drying out. Although the pointing seems solid enough I am worried that the colour change may mean that water is being absorbed into it and am concerned that this may lead to frost damage in the coming months. Any advice gratefully recieved.
