hi all new here
ive been asked to do a little job for someone regarding new slabs to an existing front step porch the porch its self is very solid consisting of the old council style 600x600 concrete slabs
i would take these up but on the porch there is a suporting metal pole for the roof which is concreted in with the concrete flush with the slabs so it looks like one of them now im planning on going over the top of these with a sharp sand dry mix or would i be better with a morter bed the new slabs are 450x450
any advise would be of great advice

Another option...
If the council style slabs are very level with the correct falls and you got very well calibrated new slabs, you may be able to use an external tile adhesive. Also have you considered using a nice anti-slip external floor tile for the step? (They are not much more than £20 per m^2)
Or consider Resin Bonded Gravel if it would look right
