Laying sandstone flags - Should flags be dampened?

Patio flagstones (slabs), concrete flags, stone flags including yorkstone and imported flagstones.

Hi
I am about to lay some local peak gritstone flags onto a 9:1 grit sand:cement mix with 10-12 mm mortared joints and wondered whether I should dampen them before laying and/or before pointing. I've read a little on the site about 'thirsty' flags and it made me wonder.
Thanks.

If the bedding is just moist or semi-dry, then there's nowt to be gained by wetting the flags.
