Hi

Just about to order the hardcore for the sub base and sand/cement but want to double check my calculations are ok before I order.

The area I need to prepare is

3500mm x 6000mm

with a depth of

360mm dropping to 300mm

I worked this out as 21 sqm and laying at a depth of 330mm so would need ~14 ton of hardcore (compacted).

For a 50mm 10:1 sand/cement on top (and for about 2sqm more) I reckon ~2 ton sand and 7 bags of cement.

I never done higher maths so wouldn't mind some of you more knowledgeable people having a once over it and making sure I'm not missing the obvious. Feel free to correct my mistakes!

Cheers
Neil

EDIT
I now notice the typo in the subject doh!

21m² @ 0.33m = 6.93m³ @ 2.2 T/m³ = 15.25T - you may well get away with 14T is you are uysing a lighter sandstone DTp1

21m² of bedding @ 50mm = 1.05m³ @ 2.1T/m³ = 2.2T
So, get 2T sand plus 200kg OPC (8 bags @ 25kg)

I know some on here will advocate a stronger bedding mix, so you might want to really push out the boat and get, say, 10 bags of cement!

Thanks for the replies guys, appreciated

Got a few quotes and they are all similar in price

Type 1 - £20.05 each
Granite sand - £32.09 each
Lafarge cement 25kg - £3.15 each

so for 14t type1, 2 ton sand and the cement it comes to £380 (inc a tenner deliver) - so about £450 odd quid plus VAT.
Does that sound reasonable for the materials needed? (will be getting more of each as suggested above)

Is there anything I should ask regarding the type1 supplied etc?

Prices look fine. Would make sure it's type one, if it's recycled then make sure it's clean ie: not filled with wood, plastic, soil etc
