had an emergency call today
a client of ours was trying to have a hot tub delivered but it wouldnt fit through his gate
so off to knebworth for a fry up as detailed elsewhere
the only other option was lift it over the house for a grand with a crane
since we did some work there last year he has had a patio laid but now has problems with damp
I wonder why??????
when he asked me how to fix it i said drop the high level 150mm
shame cos it has a fair design to it,just shame about the levels
few crosses etc but overall a fair job

the chipies pitched it today, I was breaking up a 15 year old readmix garage floor laid by guess who?
at the time if i had known they would want to convert the gargae 15 years later i wouldnt have laid it 150mm thick
completely wrecked 3 SDS max points on the breaker and only done half of it
c'est la vie
looks like that yellow thing may be coming out next week

Surely would have been quicker and cheaper to go and hire a beaverpack Tone?

"Hand dig a swimming pool" - I don't think you're far from the truth Pablo!Pablo wrote:Dave_L wrote:Surely would have been quicker and cheaper to go and hire a beaverpack Tone?
You're talking to the man who'd rather hand dig a swimming pool than do it with a digger that would be far to easy an option.
Call me lazy but I hired a 008 Micro to dig a base for an 8' x 6' shed base last week, I was constantly asking myself if I would have wanted to hand dig it and the answer was "No!!"

in retrospect a compressor and jackhammers would have done it quicker, but when i tried a test spot it was only 100mm thick
sds max are great demolition hammers
just not on old thick and strong concrete
re:plant
i love diggers but a time and a place
if it is going to reduce someones garden to the somme for the sake of 2 days hand digging then i hand dig
but if the access is right and the job warrants it then i use whatever i can
sadly most of the council stuff we do is very tight access

wish i could find one heavier than 16lbs, if i don't have concrete to hit with it then i hit a truck tyre for a workout.

i extended a pond by 18" yesterday and increased the depth by 6".
I did it by hand, and counldn't understand why when i have a digger sitting in the yard??
a moment of madness.
