Hi all , first post here from rain soaked leicester ,

i have a large kitchen tiled in tumbled travertine sealed and grouted. the sliding folding doors are the full width of the room and we want to open onto a patio of 60 sq mtrs,
We would like the pavers to be of travertine to match the kitchen, sort of bring the outside in affair ,

i can see by reading all day and night on this very informative forum ,that a lot of you professionals are not so keen on travertine ,

could any one please tell me the best way to lay this , i have very contrasting views from the suppliers . its 30 mm in an opus pattern, and also would enjoy any comments on why its not well received , thanks ,Steve

travertine is a very soft porous stone that is very suited to its country of origin because it's hot and sunny and looks great but because we have a cold wet climate it is impossible to keep clean and goes green in no time at all. If you lived on the south coast near the sea and faced south you can sometimes get away with it if you live anywhere else in the uk then it'll break your heart. I would strongly recommend finding an alternative there are plenty of limestones and sandstones that will be a close enough match without the hassle. Also stone acts very differently inside and out so won't look the same anyway. I've laid lots of patio's that were to match the kitchen but they rarely do
