quick one for you here.
i'll be making a border shortly using some granite cobbles, 4inch square.
My plan is to batton with some sensible size wood, dig a small 50mm trench round the battons, fill it with mortor 6/1, and then settle the cobs in, flush against the batton.
once its all set, the batton gets removed, and fake grass installed inside, Pebbles outside.
should be ok ?

( its a border thats 1m into a garden, effectivly making a 5mx3m border, 1 cob wide)
because the cobbs are properly random, and i need a straight edge to lay the fake grass into.
will a simple base of mortar be ok, its not going to be used much, and is more of a decrotive thing.
