We're currently blocking a 170 m2 Drive, using Pavesetts Ochre Grey Tumbled 3 size Pavers and we have a problem!
The sizes, for anyone ignorant of such a block are 100x150, 150x150 and 200x150. We have used these time and agin over the last 10 years, never had any issues until now.
The spec and rep says to expect tolerance in sizes of 2% either way, fine, but as we have found to our annoyance, the large and small sizes that we are using all seem to be approx 147 wide, and beleive me we've had a good measure up of a few while the fecking Square alleged 150x150 size seem to be varying, on all sides form 147 up to 154mm, which if you try and fit into mixed size courses, as you can imagine, makes straight lines feckin impossible!!
Now I'm no feckin newbie when it comes to Paving, but you'd think I was when the Rep spoke to me after I called to ask what the crack was! He told me the size difference was within the tolerence they accepted, but that he would replace any that we can't use, fine except it's the whole quantity, from 3 different packs, and unless I measue each individual replacement, I'll be back to where I am now.
I have never had to use String lines to lay every course of a block drive, we are already committed due to the fact we are adding the 170 m2 to an existing 65m2 we laid, with no problems, last year(He was going to have a gravel drive, but changed his mind)
I suppose all I'm saying is make sure you measure a good selection of their products in future, and maybe lay them in single size cousres, because they won't go in any other way, not unless your client likes wavy lines across their drive.
Gi it sum ommer
