Consolidating small format flags

I'm just about to lay about 50m of 400x400x40 smooth concrete flags on a screeded grit sand bed.

Whenever i have laid simliar before i have just tapped them down as i go but on a larger area like this i was keen to use the plate, Anyone done this before or are they bound to crack?

Oh and close jointed 3mm with Kiln dried sand

Your asking for trouble with 40mm I would lay as normal as they are baby slabs
