Yeah right by the student canteen, the smell of cooking was torture on a daily basis. We charmed the girls into doing us teas for a couple of days but I reckon they got a bollocking after day 2 as they dried up after then :(

You should have seen the look on the pretty young canteen checkout girl when she was watching our Adrian flopping the 2" poker about the 'crete.

Her smile said it all, I reckon she likes 'vibrating toys'

i like doing stuff like this its challenging
I should have took pictures of the way we supported it while we got the L10 lintel in but thats a trade secret :;):
any questions fire away
LLL :)
got to put a lintel in like that soon. cliant want to convert room into garage. its double story, i've got some strong boys i was going to use, cut the hole out, fit lintel, cut a former for top of lintel for an arch with brick headers, what would your method be tony. 7' opening so single garage door.

I own 2 strong boys but dont like them
what we did was fix a 225 by 50 joist to the wall about 9 inches higher than where the render starts
using these
we fixed it every 200mm1 higher 1 lower so like a W shape
used about 15
then we removed 1 scaffold board and put 2 acrows at about a 15 deg angle from the floor to the underside of the plate
so that when we removed the loose stuff we wouldnt lose the rendered section
as it was lime mortar i drilled out the joints on any stubborn bricks with a 6.5mm drill
if you are using an L10 lintel (L shaped) you will probably need to bed it on to something in the middle as they tend to flex more than normal cavity lintels
cheers LLL
