Log cabin base - What's the sub base?

Setts and cobbles, tarmac, asphalt, resin systems, concrete whether it's plain, patterned or stencilled, gravels, etc.

What a great Site!

I'm planning on a flag base for a log cabin (my retreat when my dearly beloved can't cope with me anymore). The web sites where you buy these things vary in there suggestions from a couple of inches of sand over levelled soil to complex constructions involving membranes and sub bases. I'm that confused I thought I'd ask the experts. I can't get concrete to the site without mega expense.
So the question I'm asking is what do I need underneath the flags for a 3m x 5m Log cabin.

Please can any one help.

The sites that sell these things also say the base must be completely level, but I wonder if there needs to be some fall on the base for drainage. An opinion about this would be great.
Many thanks
Richard

we did a shed base yesterday for a 16 foot by 8 foot shed
so i used 100mm type 1 wacked
25mm sand blinded
125-150mm of c25 concrete ,we had to barrow it 80m every barrow took 2 blokes 1 hour to do 2.5m3 with me levelling
hope this helps

Thanks very much Sean.
I reckon thats about 3 bags of type 1 and One of sand with about six bags of cement.
Do you think this sounds about right?

sounds about right richard.
Tony, richard has already binned the concrete idea as ''mega expensive.''
Why the 25ml of sand ?

just a blinding under the DPM
i often get folk telling me they cannot have concrete, due to location, expensive pumps etc
its surprising what 3 blokes can shift in barrows in an hour, even with distance and gradient involved
I feel a reinforced raft would be a superior base to slabs for similar money, unless he lives on top of a mountain
sorry sean i also forgot the 4.8 by 2.4m sheet of mesh
those log cabins arent cheap
worth getting the right base in
IMHO :)

I thought the same too Luton, I don't see the logic of having a flag floor which could move when there is weight on one side or the corners of the flags when you installing something on top of them costing as much as a log cabin does

i'm with you both also. But the man adked for an alternative, i thought he had ruled out concrete. I would at leadt like to see a strip footing, if he can't do an whole base. As you you keep quoting ''give the ''customer what he asks for.'' and before you comment lll....yes i've made a few spelling errors
