Rompox or sand n ccement

I have just reused these block to make some steps, I can't decide to Rompox them or colored sand and cement pointing.

The end of the block may be a problem for Rompox, what do you think ?

duck tape the underside and face joints to stop the material falling through, then its your choice, but i would use easipoint personally!

Why is the end blocks like that? Maybe another photo might reveal more. Could end up with your blocks migrating if no side haunching.

very neat job segovia

there are a few areas where the bedding is close to the top of the blocks and does not give enough depth for what ever your using to point the blocks with but this can be removed with a angle grinder or similar taking care not to touch the edge of the blocks

seeing as the step treads are held in place with brickwork on 3 sides one can only think its the front edge what sean is referring too which could be vulnerable to braking away if you step right on the front edge of the half blocks unless these have been well bedded and buttered together on 4:1 building sand and cement mix similar to laying brickwork

Hi - yes I am satisfied that they are well bedded, in hindsight should of used some adhesive on the underneath of the blocks. This was done by my bricklayer and he has not used resin type filler before. I have actually bought Weatherpoint, as I don't have enough Rompox left to do the job. This is my dilemma, let him point up with sand and cement which I know will be a good job or go for the resin filler .

Not so mick, the first photo he put up had a piece of offcut timber holding some darts in place, so when he takes that away, surely it will migrate? If i'm seeing it wrong, ( wrong strength bins on ) then i apologise.

I cant see the first photo sean as it shows a question mark where the photo should be and all the other photos on the second link show half blocks to the front edge of the riser and the darts are to the back of the steps so once pointed can't move

have you seen something I have missed ?

Got my proper glasses mick and i apologise there is a shadow that makes the blocks to the side look like darts. accept my apology, there's no fool like an half blind fool :laugh:

What are darts ?

darts are the small cuts or less than a third of a block

in your situation you have no choice but to cut the small pieces otherwise you would loose the pattern of the half bond but if it was block paving on a driveway anything less than a third of a block in size would be inboard cutting

I have decided to let him sand and cement it anyway as he is back on the job tomorrow, he looked a little disappointed when I asked him to use the resin anyway, i think he was looking forward to it

I am intrigued now as to where you saw the timber, I have looked at all the shots I took and I can't see any timber
