Infiltration system

I am having a driveway installed soon . I have a sloped drive towards the road. I have had a few quotes but they seem a bit vague when it comes to drainage, even registered installers of well known brands. I have noticed locally that gratings are installed at the end of the drives, but its doubtful if they lead anywhere such as to a soakaway . Could the gratings be the top part of a infiltration drain as in your diagrams instead of the cobbles , if so what would the gratings be fixed to

Those gratings should, and probably will be leading to soakaways. What gives you the impression that they dont?

I walked past the site twice a day and was interested to see if they did install a soak away They dug out the drive built two walls at the front,digger gone . hardcore then sand and laid the blocks leaving a gap at the front of the drive next then the gratings appeared and the blocks to the end of the drive.

Well lets assume they didnt put in a soakaway (unless you are there all the time it could be dug and installed within an hour!) they are not doing the work correctly. If i were you i would make sure your installers are pricing your job properly because if not they will be 5-600 quid cheaper and you may be missing out on a good installer because he IS pricing the work properly, if you are hoping to avoid the cost of a soakaway then this is probably the wrong place for advice as all of the tradesmen on here are what i call (proper job bobs) theres no bodges advised.

yes i am trying to avoid a bodge . As my drive is only 3.5m long then a soakaway will be too close to the house . Could the gratings be used as a cover to an infiltration drain at the end of my drive ?

thats what i thought . They are being naughty boys putting drainage channels in at the end of the drive, and then relying on the local council never having the time or effort to ask anyone to dig the garden up and show the SUDs that they installed. unless water cascades into the road no one will ever know

although i install drainage the cost is prohibitive
around Â£500
I have never seen rain flood off a block paved drive
its just a myth the enviroment agency perpetuates to cover their own inadequacies for allowing houses to be built on flood plains
a grate is better than nothing
in my opinion the subbase and kerbs are much more important
