Hello,

Fantasic site.

I am a budding DIYer and have choosen engineering bricks for it's properties for a garden project. This may be a simple question but when bricklaying engineering bricks (perforated with 3 holes) do all the holes get mortared completley. Some examples I have seen from old wall constructions show complete and void areas within these perforations. Can you help me with the correct code of practice?

Many thanks
Andy ???

You only need a sausage of mortar down each side of the brick. There's no point filling the holes, unless you get a commission from mortar sales.

Some mortar will naturally enter the frogs, but they don't need to be filled: they provide a key for the mortar, that's all.
