New boiler

New boiler installed everything running smoothly apart from the pipe from the gas meter is slightly squashed (lead) and the gas pressure to the boiler is not at the recommended level . So he wants to replace at my cost materials + labour ! is it up to me to pay or should he have done his homework before starting?

my plumber would charge me around £450 labour for a new boiler install plus boiler,clock and flue
btw what boiler did you get?

if it was done at mates rates i would say yes
if it was an unforeseen i would say yes
if he gave a written quote saying do everything probably no
use your intuition,are we talking 100 quid here or more?

3m of copper 22 mm is 15 quid ish 1/2 day and a few fittings

We had a Worcester Bosch 30 CDi fitted, and 7 P+ Rads, £3560, was £3500 but replaced lead for £60 should have done it in price but after arguing the missus wanted to just make the peace and added the £60 with out me knowing. Good job but very unproffessional.

I love WB boilers,one of the main advantages being if you have a problem out of warranty they have a special service cal out fee
last time i used them,they guaranteed to fix any fault for £180 parts and labour,other than the heat exchanger which was £240
I know its £60 but if its a good installation and if he has commissioned it and filled in all the books you have a correct price for that job,some down here would charge 5k for that

We need a new oil boiler this summer. Are Worcester Bosch any good with oil burners? The one we have is circa 1960's according the the plumber who serviced it. Still works but not efficient. Do you need the radiators replaced or is it a false economy not to?

LLL I got three quotes lowest 3250 highest 4800! Work was to a high standard although took the pi55 abit. I was surprised to see plastic fittings under floorboards but apparently its the norm. It all looked fairly easy to do, apart from the boiler, easy money.

Al Jardin, The plumber will go for all new I would have thought if he has to guarantee it. Worcester Bosch have 5 years warranty at the moment till june-july. Make sure you get decent discount if its all new as their will be some copper under those floor boards that he will be putting in the van!Boiler Most boilers have reviews you just need to look. Apparently Valiant and Worcester Bosch are the best.

Thanks for that Bodge. Might be worth keeping all the old copper and rads then scrapping them myself. I wonder if old boilers have any scrap value.

guys you need a lot of copper to make money from it
apparently oil is cheaper than gas to run now?
regarding rads,new rads will be more efficient so no point putting a new boiler in with old rads
you can get 7 rads for about £400 so its a no brainer really

Old boilers will have a general scrap value, we scrapped a big swimming pool boiler with our last load, but as a boiler on its own, not a lot of value.

I took 3 large car/plant batteries into the local scrap merchant the other day got £22 for three batteries!!!

LLL- One of the radiators has the thermostat on the outgoing, still works but will this damage thermostat or is ok. Ive called the bloke back a few times about other stuff !its starting to pi55 me off and one of the rads makes a racket when getting hot not sure if its something I can do.

as long as the valves are designed to go on the flow or return (which most are) it's not a problem, although my personal preference is to put them on the flow, but this is the sort of attention to detail that plumbers above all trades can't seem to manage!!

as for the noisy rad is the valve try to shut? the pipes leading to it vibrating or the actual rad itself?
