Decking - Not as straight forward as it looks

Hi guys.

I did this decking about 18 months ago. The couple just wanted to cover up a concrete base for a shed and tidy the steps area a bit so I used 2x2s bolted to the concrete for the base and battening for the verticle attachments.



They recently phoned me up and asked if I could cover up the remaining risers on the steps and along the sides but NOT cover the goers or anymore platform areas as they are worried about slipping. Obviously to not create a tripping hazard I would have to cover up the risers no higher the their top edge which I think would look rubbish as it would sit below the verticle fitting that you can see in the picture. Also the concrete base is all over the place with no level edges.

Ideally I'd like to put form work around the steps and level them off to the top of the verticle decking and then I'd be able to deck to the top of the risers. If I made a gritsand mortar mix and did this would it eventually just crack away from the existing hard standing.

Any advice?

Cover it all in decking. Get the non slip for the steps and or tell them to clean the decking regularly and they wont slip

Once slipped on some decking in a customers garden. I hate the stuff. As soon as its damp it's dangerous.

I did a nursing home car park a few years ago and they decked everything the could, ramps, courtyard, walkways and all the recreation areas.
It'll be lethal for the old folks now.
