Artificial grass

Quick one for anyone who's got experience of it. I've got some to lay soon in a play area and I can't figure out a neat way of finishing the edges. It will be finished level with the top of some thick timber and I'm after something along the lines of carpet gripper rods or other carpet step stop trims. Are these products available or what finish would you advise.

I have laid it twice, first time i used timber laths and you nail it to the laths

the second one was lots of curves so I did a grit sand and cement screed around the perimeter about 100mm wide, I cut the artificial grass to shape first using a stanley knife and then used the special adhesive supplied by the company what glued the turf onto the concrete strip

in your case you can nail a lath to the thick timber just less than the depth of the artificial grass so they are flush when the work is completed, I don't think any type of carpet trim outdoors would look as good as the neat edge of the timber and the grass butting together

last stuff i did they sent some 6"nails with large heads, nail every 6" or so.

Nails or a dirty great stapler. You boys know in ten years time we are going to be spending fortunes on getting rid of that plastic stuff and reinstating "proper grass"

Galvanised fencing Staples, the biggest you can get, say from an agricultural suppliers. That's what we use, and I've done a few now, although I'm still not 100% about it, it can work in the right Garden/design or for it's obvious use, play areas and sports. Carpet Grippas will rot and come apart, not really suitable for exteriors mate.

give me some credit Mick I wasn't intending on using interior fixings I was just wondering if there was an exterior equivelent or something. Thanks for the replies I was planning on nailing it to a recessed lathe but was anxious about the nails leaving it looking puckered. Cheers.

Sorry Pablo, wasn't meaning you hadn't thought about that.
We found the staples hid in the tuft well and have kept the "Sheets" straight and non puckered. I've not found any automated staplers big enough, or maybe I'm not looking hard enough, but to be honest for the amount we do the galvs serve well. We have also, just to give it a bit more adherance (is that a word ?) used a Pond silica adhesive, along the battens, and weighted it down, but you have to watch the Tufts?? don't gat squashed flat by the weight.
