how many metres have you got bob?
realistically i am going to have to rake out and repoint 100m2 of rompox and replace with easipoint this year, which is going to cost £350 for gear alone
but i feel comfortable with that as everything i have used it on is 100% solid and colourfast

Just under 60 sq/metres.
The flags are 22mm calibrated so I guess I don't need to make the joint any deeper than that.
You being in the trade probably means you get it at the best possible price. It's a difficult call as I've already spent £100's on Rompox Easy and I don't want to spend the same again if ordinary mortar will do the job.
As for colour fading if I buy one of the mortars in my previous posts that doesn't have a dye in it then it shouldn't fade?

Bear in mind that softer mortars will wear out a good diamond blade quickly. I've used specialist 4inch grinder blades for that type of work - for harder & softer materials. I think Macrist do them but not cheap. Yes they are thicker. I'm sure Faithfull do cheap 4inch diamond blades - worth a try.

I raked out some of my Rompox Easy where it had shrunk with these (refilled with Rompox Easy and it's still crap grrrr)

6mm thick not top quality but cheap and they do the job.

finally hoover out with a henry type hoover

ah have to own up there they had allready bought the setts then found me after some research to lay them i have advised them to render outside and put quins on corners and use a victorion coulour to bring it together

Mine came from Toolstation but they've also stopped doing them.
I think if you stick with Silverline you want go far wrong. They may not be a top notch make but they'll get the job done.

There is a mortar chisel - narrow & angled for removal of joints. I can't find a link to one but they are very usefull. Got mine from TP.

I use a combo of chisels and saws to dig it out then I blast it with a 3000psi washer that works for me and is fairly quick.

the problem with the jet washer i have found is that you end up with a layer of slurry in the joints
i know its bad news but a dry saw cut then chisel and then hoover = a clean joint ready for misting and pointing
a crap job if ever there were one
