Cesspool installation

Hi,
I have been asked by a farmer customer to install a cespool for catching waste water when they wash the chicken sheds out. A few years ago I built an underground tank for him at a different farm. As he needs to get it done before the end of the year to comply with some new regulations he has bought a cesspool from the drain store.com. It is a low profile one so 1.5m diameter and 3m long.
Reading the spec it says to encase in 200mm of concrete. I have estimated it will take aprox 6cube. My plan is (day1)to dig out to 2m deep by 1.9m wide and lay concrete 200mm in the base, bed the tank on it. Day 2 half fill with water and fill around the tank with concrete. The spec says to lay the base and surround the tank in one go but don't think the concrete wagon driver will be to happy waiting about. Will there be any issues doing it in two pours? Also I think it will be a bit to much for my Takeuchi 1.5 tonner so am looking at hiring in a 3 tonner do you think I should be able to dig it out in a day and site tank? The spoil is going relatively close by with tractor and six ton dump trailer estimaing 15 min between loads to tip off. Also the ground is sand and gravel, hopefully the sides won't fall I to much as I don't want to big a hole as it's got to be filled with concrete.
Any tips gratefully received.
Regards
Jon

Dig two sides out, like two trenches but in one corner, then work backwards. You will easily dig that out in 3-4 hrs with a 3t. They say fill in one pour for a reason, probably to makke certain there is a bond between base and sides. Surley its not too much to add an hour of waiting time? Pour base, drop tank and get running hose, then pour the rest as you go. For my money i would have a pair of 4x2 on site to pin the tank incase the need arises, in theory the bucket of machine will hold down your tank if it tries to rise as you fill.. Easy days work.

order it from a mini mix company 3m2 and 3m2 etc or 4/2 and you'll have the turna round time then you can specifiy your delivery slots. id have that out nicely in about 2 hours in good ground with my kubota, assuming no utilities etc free reign to go for it loading a big dumper or trailer. i put a 3.5x2m one in in a tarmac car park the other day in half a day.

With a 3 ton m/c you will easy do it in a day, ready mix can be delivered semi-dri and left in a heap, this time of year will stay useable for 3 hours , does not need to be wet,dig out hole lay concrete for base flat and leval, tank straight in, start filling with water, concrete around it as water rises, should be in and done in 5 hours, if you are working for a farmer get him to fill a tanker with water to fill cess pool quick, when i put tanks in ground i have 2 1000L IBC tanks full ,that way no time is lost. we did our allotment compost toilet this time last year with a 3 tonne takeuchi
ordered 3 cube of lean mix for 10.30 by which time we had the hole out
volumetric pumped some in the bottom which i levelled with a rake
digger then lifted the toilet catchpit in and we backfilled with fairly dry gear again
all easily done in a day
volumetric guy tipped what we didnt need in the bottom ,and myself and the digger moved it

Hi,
Many thanks for all the advise. Managed to get the tank installed without any issues. Took a good day as access wasnt the best and had to remove a concret slab 13m x 2.4m.
Ended up hiring a friend with a jcb 3cx as hire company let me down with the 3 tonner.
Next question is how much would (rough figure) people charge for this job. Think I have possibly done it a bit cheap.
Client supplied tank. I have dug up concrete slab 150mm thick 2.4m x 13m and excavated hole for the tank measureing 1.9m wide 3.5m long 2m deep. All spoil moved off site but tipped on clients ground approx 1 mile away. The tank istallation took 7.4 cubic meters of concrete. Reinstate concrete slab over tank 2.4m x 13m 150mm thick using 2 sheets of 2.4m x 4.8m 8mm reinforcing mesh over the actual tank. 5cubic meters used in the slab. Also have installed 18m of 10inch road kerbs along an exisiting concrete yard which involved digging out removing spoil to clients tip and concreteing in total of 1.4cube used for the kerbs.
So in brief i have supplied 13.8 cubic meters of concrete, 22 road kerbs and 2 sheet of 8mm reinforcing mesh. Removed all spoil off site and all the work as mentioned previously.
Hopefully your estimates wont make me feel to bad. I am based in the north wales area as I appreciate prices vary by region.
Many thanks

I hope he reads this forum as it apprears he has got a good price from me at £2750!!!
As I said I am relatively new to this kind of work so it has been a bit of a learning experience and I have made a wage for the four days work.
Hopefully I will gain some more jobs as I do enjoy this type of work.
Again many thanks for the advise.
