Had to extend some street light cables back in October in preperation for moving a lamp ready to put a new bell mouth in on a new development site.Already had all the Utility plans including a major fibre optic cable running down verge.Cut tarmac in old entrance having sussed it out and told every body to be bloody carefull. You have guessed it,I decide to peel tarmac off with the foot bucket and found the 50mm water pipe laid under the tarmac!!water in digger cab, over me and in the trench I was trying to keep dry! Staff doubled over with laughter whils watching me trying to bend end of pipe double(must buy that squese off tool) and tie it off. Then drive to local! merchant to buy connectors,he thought it was amusing to tell me he had none in stock(he did) and then when I got back the boys were drinking tea made by the client
who informed me that I was more than welcome to one but there did not appear to be any more water to make tea with!!!
The new catch phrase is now BE BLOODY CAREFULL BOSS.
Even the wife took the mickey when I got home.
Dont worry people it is invested!! DNF

my dad broke through an old 12" water main, when i say broke through it was more got within a foot of it and the cast iron collapsed, was so rusted it was paper thin. a 2m deep 7metre long trench filled up almost instantly good job it was sheet piled as we went or half the rd would have gone, and we had a stop key on hand for a sprint down the rd.

the large 450mm diameter steel pipe in this video was a 40 bar main backbone connection between reservoirs, united utilities guy said you break that your all dead!!

we had a jcb demonstration driver friend of ours on the controls hehe

Last year Balfour Beatty were renewing a similar pipe to that giles but twice the size - they where flushing from certain poitns on the pipe?, anyhow the mush on the js330 knocked a valve/tap or something off the top off the pipe, it shot a fountain up around 100ft for two days! Sent my brother past it to the butty van on his moped :D

I had a video on my old phone, ill see if i can get it!

Yep had that one, first time Iwent through the the gas as a wet behind the ears 20 year old, we were in a panic, called out British gas and kept our distance. The guy turned up with a tab in his mouth spit on a bit of clay, stuck it on and told us to concrete over it! They then sent us a bill for a couple of hundred quid or so. Managed to get out of paying in the end!
