Have been looking on the web for a fresh 13-16tonne swing shovel, why is it every time you come across one that is of interest it says POA? Just say what you want for it,that way I will only enquire about it if it is within my budget and not waste everyones time icluding my own!!

ps what is the going rate for that size machine at the moment? Am charging £30/hr for my 9tonner at the present.

should I not ask questions like that on or give information like I did on here? New to forums and the like so might need teaching some of the etiquette!(apart from the terms and conditions of course) I also know not to SHOUT but that is about it! :) DNF

you have done nothing wrong. I think most guys with machines charge by the day rather than by the hour

I had to Google swing shovel I thought you might be a yank turns out it's just the humble old 360. Your rate seems on the money.

Au contraire dan. When you get to the larger macines its all calculated by the hour.

Heres an interesting thread giving details by the hour of current operators around the uk.

Its down to common sense really, some jobs are done on price,
some on a weekly rate, some on a daily rate,I try to encourage a minimum weeks hire and always charge for machine delivery onto site(one way only).Smaller jobs I hire a smaller machine in as you can get delivery of machine as part of hire charge.
Also there are jobs we do where the machine has been on site but only used for a few hours a day to make life easier and it would be unfair to charge the client for a full days use.
DNF :)
PS,Sorry Pablo swing shovel is Devon slang for a 360 tracked excavator,I am always being told off for using that description. :(

I meant selling it not renting it
I bet you need a lot of work to justify those big machines

weve got two sat doing nothing at mo, 16 ton and 13 ton infact non of our machines are working at mo gone very quiet been of these last two weeks without any work till big extension starts just what you need pre xmas.

i charge by the job mostly but have set day rates, the yanks have it rightover plant pricing they charge $110/hr for 13-16 ton machines just not the business for it here with guys going out with a mini for £100 a day etc.

POA is designed to get you on the phone so they can talk you into buying something etc but it always puts me off, most ppl shop on price what they can afford its rare to say sod the price and buy on condition make etc

what are you looking for any particular specification or brand? etc

Not a big fan of POA myself. just says to me that they are scared to put the price on and they aint got a lot of confidence in what they are selling.

I liken it to these paving companies who create these fancy, nondescript names for their products. Just creates confusion
