i wanted to bed the block paving on my patio so as to get a perfect leveled screed to lay the blocks on but i now find out that once you've laid the patio you have to go over the whole thing with a wacker plate will this loosen the edge blocks and how much will the blocks laid on the screed compress down?

If you have used a cement you are probably too late. You will be trying to compact concrete. Doing the paving the way you have kinda looses the advantages of using a block in the first place

Edge blocks should be laid in 75-100mm of concrete. The rest should be laid on 25-40mm of sharp sand.

Not 2 different views. Lpad is also correct. There could be a misunderstanding from the information you have given though. When you say screed do you mean a sand / cement mix?

Tell us exactly what you have done for your patio so far.

What he said.

Can't say for sure how much the blocks laid will compact down, it varies depending on how well you have laid your type 1 ie: is it one nice smooth gradient or are there dips and peaks all over it, type of sand, how wet it is, the machine you are compacting it etc
As a rough guideline, 5-10mm.
