i wanted to bed the block paving on my patio so as to get a perfect leveled screed to lay the blocks on but i now find out that once you've laid the patio you have to go over the whole thing with a wacker plate will this loosen the edge blocks and how much will the blocks laid on the screed compress down?
If you have used a cement you are probably too late. You will be trying to compact concrete. Doing the paving the way you have kinda looses the advantages of using a block in the first place
2 ganger replies 2 different views i just want to be able to get the patio as flat as possible so a wheelchair has no probs what should i do the blocks arrive saturday morning?
Not 2 different views. Lpad is also correct. There could be a misunderstanding from the information you have given though. When you say screed do you mean a sand / cement mix?
Tell us exactly what you have done for your patio so far.
i have compacted 100mm of type 1 am nowe ready to start laying the sand bed and the blocks 2 side edges of the patio are against concrete gravel boards 1 edge is against the house and the other edge i have put aluminium edging

What he said.
Can't say for sure how much the blocks laid will compact down, it varies depending on how well you have laid your type 1 ie: is it one nice smooth gradient or are there dips and peaks all over it, type of sand, how wet it is, the machine you are compacting it etc
As a rough guideline, 5-10mm.
