Tony,
In the US Mirafi
http://www.tcmirafi.com/
has been pushing a 140n non-woven geotextile and they seem to be co-marketing it with its 500x woven material.
From what I have gathered,
http://www.tcmirafi.com/PDF/PDS/pds.500x140n.0304.pdf
500x has superior tensile strength, obviously, while the 140n has superior drainage capabilities.
BOTH appear to be a similar price points . . .SO:
The one question I cannot seem to get an answer on, is if I were a residential paver contractor, what considerations would I need to consider when deciding which to use?

For the vast majority of residential installations, puncture resistance is the key factor. Hydraulic perfomance matters only on very wet sites. I'd go with the 500.
Strangely enough, the most popular geo-textiles in Britain and Ireland are non-wovens. Terram 1000 and TDP115 are the big sellers and both offer good levels of puncture resistance, tear resistance and tensile strength. Woven geo-textiles tend to be weaker for some reason.
