Pic coating

Hi all,

Can anyone tell me what I need to coat my newly laid PIC to protect it, ideally point me at where I can buy it from? Sprayer, primmer, top coat also quantities for 82 Square meters?

Before anyone asks “why if it’s just been laid�, the cowboys who put this down over a year ago on a cold frosty day finally replaced it about a week ago after loads of grief. It was replaced because the surface had flaked off, when the first patch happened they said it was “normal�, and they ground the surface down and dabbed a little coating on, it was obvious this was not right but I agreed as they said “we do this all the time�, no surprise weeks later more patches arrived, at first they blamed the frost on the day of laying but after taking the concrete up they blamed the concrete mix or an additive!

Whilst replacing the large damaged section they put a new section in which I agree to pay for, that was until I saw it, it was noticeable lower than the rest of the drive, when I asked them to return to discuss this problem along with others problems they arrived whilst I was out and removed the entire new section without discussing it and dumped the rubble on my lawn, then they sent me an email demanding payment for the new section (£500) that they had just laid / removed before they would coat my drive, also whilst removing the new section the removed the section over the service strip stating “it not your land so we have removed it� again all without me knowing. Well as you can imagine we are now simply starting legal action against them but meanwhile I have spent far too much on the drive but still need it protecting so please please help, anyone.

Sound like a right bunch of tossers, don't think there is anyone here that installs pic but good advise will no doubt follow.

Pic is shite, here is the proof. Im pretty sure you will be fine in court as what they have done is damage your property but there is always two sides to every story.

I would imagine anything you do on the economical is not going to work, and you are going to have an ongoing horrible drive. I'm not an expert but would think your best long term solution, which IS going to cost, is to have the top surface ground off and then approach one of the resin topping companies to top the surface for you. Theres a regular poster on here that should respond along these lines.

I am yet to see a good example of PIC in this country. Saw loads of it in Australia though.

I've seen a fair bit of PIC abroad and it has looked tidy ..it may be the better weather

First driveway I helped lay was my parents one in Australia. Friend of the family laid PIC for a living, wish I had paid more attention to what was going on :laugh: Driveway could fit 6 3 litre+ size engine cars in it.
We smashed up the old one then my Dad had about 8 friends over running about like idiots trying to get it down before it got too hot. All done for the princely sum of a BBQ

My brother in law tells me it still looks good after all these years.

Hi Steve, speak to Nigel Blake at SmartSeal Ltd. Find them easily on the web. I'm a registered installer for SmartSeal and over the last three years, they have been a pleasure to deal with. They also supply for DIY use. Take some photos and give him the background and you will get great honest advice from a guy that does it week in week out. Do beware though, PIC re-coating can be difficult to achieve a good lasting finish if the job was done badly in the first place. PS This is definitely NOT the time of year to be considering doing the job. Best wait until late spring ! Regards KevinM
