I am inquiring about how someone would go about draining a sunken patio, and what type of drain or drainage-type construction it would need.
The site is very large and the sunken patio (only a step below grade) is about 100 square meters. It is in the center of the site and approximately half of it borders natural ground (fertile, but dry soil). The other half borders connecting patio paths, etc.
Would drainage straight into the groundwater be possible? I know I need some sort of drainage (even if only minor amounts) because I don't want rain water run-off to "flood" this area. Please help. Thanks.

You need to determine whether a soakaway would work on this site. If so, then installing a simple attenuation cell, even if it was directly beneath the patio, would be the simplest solution. All the paving colud them be laid to drain towards a single gully located somewhere convenient on the patio.
