Trying to decide how to lay an edge course around a patio door. The edge course is composed of a double row of Tobermore Tegula Setts which are variable
70/80/90/100/110/120 x 90mm.

The options I've come up with are below. Looking on opinions on which looks better or if there are other options.

For regular 90 deg corners I'll probably go with the simpler design as seen here

can't see why you'd want to mitre ???

No Mitre. Can't see why it was even an option, unless there is more information you're not telling us.

Thanks for the comments. I wanted to go with the "no mitre" as it's easier but needed a bit of convincing that it would look fine.

There is a gap left as indicated by the white strip near the door. I'll fill this with a bit of mortar. It's only about 15 mm.

Cheers

if your sealing flags then you might be best to use a flexible joint sealant along house wall.

Sean

Are you just talking about the proposed mortar strip at the door and the likelihood of it cracking when whacking.

Or are you suggesting applying a flexible sealant between full side of block and wall all the way (not just at doors) while I am laying the blocks on a concrete bed.

Lay the blocks on a concrete bed, and half fill the 15mm gap with the same mix. That way the blocks won’t move when whacked, then do the pointing once the kiln dried sand is in and all whacking finished to ensure not braking the pointing.

Another option is break the laying bond and use only 90mm x 100mm blocks as a soldier course against the house leaving only a 5mm gap that is acceptable to be jointed with kiln dried sand.

Very common problem with tegula setts with a very simple solution. Use the setts that are larger than the square laid width wise to cross over to the other course. Job done.

Looks like a winner Pablo.

Thanks again folks for pitching in with ideas.

The blocks arrived this morning. Forecast not too bad for Sat so might actually get to lay a few.
